Senior Research Adviser at the Center for Research and Education in Forensic Psychiatry at St. Olav’s Hospital (SIFER), Trondheim, and a Professor at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). He is a forensic psychologist and a researcher with clinical experience as a mental health nurse in acute settings and a focus on the social psychology of coercion minimization and violence prevention in mental health services. Richard has co-authored and co-edited a large number of publications on these topics over the past 25 years. He is a former chair of the European Violence in Psychiatry Research Group and is an Honorary Professor at the University of Liverpool, UK.
